How to get cheap or free medicine in Victoria

For: Aboriginal people in Victoria who need medicine

Cheap medicine through Closing the Gap (CTG) scripts, PBS, and how to access free pharmaceuticals through ACCHOs and community pharmacies.

Check if you have a Concession Card

With a Centrelink concession card or Health Care Card, most PBS medicines cost $7.60 per script. Pensioner concession cards give you even cheaper medicine. Check with Centrelink: 132 316.

Use Closing the Gap (CTG) scripts at ACCHOs

If you are Aboriginal, you are entitled to CTG scripts β€” these are cheaper PBS medicines available through ACCHOs and some pharmacies. Ask your GP at MDAS, Robinvale AHS, or Njernda about CTG.

Get your medicines at MDAS

MDAS in Mildura has a pharmacy that dispenses CTG scripts. Their GP clinic bulk-bills, so you pay nothing for the appointment and $7.60 or less per script. Phone: (03) 5018 4100.

Patient Travel Assistance (PTIS)

If you need to travel to get medicine that isn’t available locally, you may be able to claim travel costs back through PTIS. Ask your doctor or the Mildura PHN on (03) 5018 8100.
