How to access this service
Who can use it: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50+ (non-Aboriginal 65+)
What to do: Ring 1800 200 422 and say you'd like an assessment. Tell them you're Aboriginal β this triggers the lower-age eligibility and flags for Aboriginal-specific providers. The Regional Assessment Service or ACAS will visit at home. Bring Medicare and any GP letters.
Aged care is more than nursing homes. Home care packages pay for workers to come to your place β cleaning, cooking, personal care, transport to appointments. Respite lets carers take a break. Always ask about Aboriginal-specific providers in your area.
